7/8/15: VLP is awarded New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services grant to establish a Regional Immigration Assistance Center!
VLP’s Supervising Immigration Attorney, Sophie Feal, is extremely pleased to announce that VLP, in collaboration with Legal Aid of Rochester under the supervision of Immigration Attorney Walter H. Ruehle, has been awarded a grant from the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (through Erie County) to establish a Regional Immigration Assistance Center.
The goal of the Center will be to provide training and other legal support to indigent legal service providers representing noncitizens in criminal and family court proceedings to ensure compliance with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Padilla v. Kentucky.
We will serve the region that comprises New York’s 7th and 8th Judicial Districts. We are grateful to the Erie County Attorney’s Office for supporting us in our efforts to obtain this generous funding.
