Legal Orientation Program at Batavia
In mid-February 2017, Ramon Irizarry, Esq. immigration staff attorney, delivered a legal orientation to 38 men, all Spanish-speakers mostly from Central America. Mr. Irizarry spent the day at the Buffalo Federal Detention Center in Batavia, NY, where the men are currently detained and awaiting removal proceedings. Mr. Irizarry shared with them the process of obtaining release from detention, filing for asylum, and other important legal information to navigate the removal process. Our Legal Orientation Program at Batavia has been operating for 14 years now with the facility’s full cooperation. Currently, Mr. Irizarry and immigration staff attorney, Molly Deacon, Esq., provide this service twice per week.
