NOW HIRING ATTORNEY and PARALEGAL
For Pro Bono Coordination Team at VLP
The Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) is seeking an attorney and a paralegal to work with pro bono lawyers serving low income clients.
The primary duties will be to coordinate, recruit, train, and support pro bono attorneys. The pro bono culture is strong within our local bar. The people hired will serve as part of VLP’s pro bono team to maintain and strengthen that pro bono culture.
The pro bono team works with all local bar associations and local lawyers from all aspects of the bar. The people hired must be able to work effectively with everyone from partners at large firms to newly admitted solo practitioners and law students.
The pro bono team coordinates our limited scope outreach sites such as the Family Court Help Desk, the Federal Court Pro Se Assistance Center, the Say Yes Legal Clinics, and the Attorney of the Morning Program. More outreach programs will be developed in the next year. The pro bono team also works on referral of full representation cases, develops and presents recruitment trainings, and coordinates special projects.
The people hired must be comfortable and engaging public speakers, able to work cooperatively with VLP staff and a variety of other partners, able to work independently, and able to multitask.
Attorney must be admitted to practice in NY. Fluency in a foreign language and demonstrated commitment to working in the public interest are pluses, but not required.
VLP is not for profit corporation that provides free civil legal services to low income people. VLP is an equal opportunity employer.
Excellent benefits. Salary depends upon experience.
Deadline to apply is Monday, February 6, 2017.
